Green Attraction is an environmental label for Danish attractions that work systematically to reduce their impact on the climate and the environment. The programme aims both to inspire attractions to work more sustainably and to make it easier for visitors to find places that are committed to the green transition.
To obtain certification, an attraction must meet a number of mandatory requirements and, at the same time, fulfil a certain proportion of a range of criteria for which points are awarded. The criteria cover areas such as energy and water consumption, CO₂ emissions, waste, food waste, food products, procurement, cleaning and environmental management. In addition, there are specific requirements depending on the type of attraction.
The certification is based on documentation and ongoing follow-up. As part of the certification process, the attraction’s environmental efforts and documentation are reviewed. This is followed by regular monitoring to ensure that the requirements continue to be met. Attractions must also continue to develop their environmental efforts and set new targets.
Green Attraction was established through a collaboration between HORESTA, the Association of Amusement Parks in Denmark (FFD), the Organisation of Danish Museums (ODM), the Danish Science and Technology Centres (VPAC), and the Danish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (DAZA). HORESTA serves as the secretariat for the programme.
