Week 42

A spooky yet cozy autumn break

Are you ready for a spooky yet cozy autumn break at the Kattegatcentre? In week 42 (October 11–19), we open our doors for a holiday filled with eerily cozy experiences, ghost nets, and skeletons from the sea – but also lots of fun and cozy moments for the whole family!

During the autumn break, we’ll focus on the ocean’s hidden death traps: the abandoned ghost nets lurking beneath the surface. Go exploring, learn, and experience how their stories unfold in feedings, exhibitions, and activities. It will be fun, educational – and give the whole family a little thrill!

Spookily cozy activities in Week 42:

  • Ghost Net Hunt in the Exhibition
Bring the family on a ghost net hunt in the exhibition! Keep an eye out for the hidden nets among sea creatures and skeletons – and see how many you can find.

  • Creative Workshop
In the autumn break’s creative workshop, the youngest can unleash their creativity and learn about ghost nets in a fun way. Colour and cut sea animals and help show how nets trap life beneath the surface – and why it’s so important to remove them from the ocean.

  • Thrilling Feedings
Look forward to animal feedings and training sessions that are more than just fascinating – they’re thrilling!

  • Experience Denmark’s Largest Predator
Get up close with Tulle and our new, impressive male grey seal, Nino, who moved in this spring. We’re the only aquarium in Denmark where you can experience a male grey seal – and even alongside a female!

  • Open Lab with the Sea Expert
Get close to the ocean’s hidden traps and hear about how ghost nets affect life beneath the surface – and how we can remove them.

  • Learn about North Nature
Find out how the NGO North Nature works to register and remove the many ghost nets in the sea – and how your visit helps make a difference.

  • Skulls in the Exhibition
Discover fascinating sea animal skulls and experience the skeletons of the ocean in an eerily cozy way.

  • Crazy about Penguins
Meet our lively penguin flock and hear about their lives and behavior – including our penguin chick, who will soon take its first swim. You’ll also learn how ghost nets threaten not only fish and marine mammals but also seabirds. Penguins are actually the world’s second most threatened group of seabirds, and ghost nets are one of the dangers they face.

Fun for the Little Ones

Although this year’s autumn theme has a spooky twist, there’s also plenty of fun for the youngest family members. This summer, we got a brand-new playground where kids can run wild and play safely, while the older ones get goosebumps at the feedings. And every day during the autumn break, our shark mascot Sharky stops by for hugs, laughs, and photos.
