We have a wonderful indoor playground – with play ships, fishermen’s huts, and harbor life for the little ones!
Let the youngest members of the family explore our indoor maritime playground inspired by Grenaa’s lively fishing harbor, while the adults sit back with a cup of coffee in the front row.
On the playground, children can climb aboard light-blue play ships, collect fish crates by the pier, and sell the day’s catch in their own little fish shop. Here, children learn about fish, the sea, and fishing – using both their hands and their imagination.
The playground features:
-
Fun child-sized play ships and trawlers
-
Small fishing huts and a miniature fish shop
-
Activities that combine play and learning
-
A sensory-friendly and safe environment for toddlers
While the children play, adults can explore the stories of Grenaa Harbor – from the golden age of fishing to the future’s blue opportunities like mussels and seaweed. Authentic archival photos bring the harbour’s life and evolution to life.
Why a harbor playground?
Harbour towns have always been gateways to the sea – but the charming small harbors are at risk of disappearing. Fishing is changing, and so is life in and under the sea. With this playground, we aim to tell the story of fishing’s importance, its transformation, and its future – through play, learning, and presence.
Kattegatcentret’s new playground “The Charming Harbourfront” is supported by FLAG Kattegat, Aage V. Jensen Naturfond, and the Velux Foundation through WIN@sea.
